It's a 'tough' book both in its subject matter (The narrator's only child goes on a school shooting rampage) and uncompromising language regarding her own perceived shortcomings as a mother, and current relationship with her son Kevin. It is written in the form of letters to her estranged husband, the boy's father. Each letter reads like an essay on the social mores, and justice system of the USA, but written engagingly and bitingly. She's the kind of writer that makes me want to give up, I'll never be that good! But I am not going to give up. I will try and learn from her and others.
The new look Polly's Notebook has been inspired by an Australian writer's blog I picked up from Writers News. In fact I stole the complete idea. Photographed some books on my bookshelf for the title and the picture of the book above for this post. Now I know how to do this I will do more.
