Sydney Writers festival

I am not going to make the Sydney Writers' festival this year but there is a feast of wonderful interviews of writers on the ABC radio. Here is one author that fascinates me and I must get her book.

The acclaimed author of ’We Need to Talk About Kevin’ discusses her new book ‘So Much for That’, a gripping page-turner which brings to life the human tragedy of a system that punishes the insured as well as the uninsured. Even people who have jobs and are insured can lose everything if they are unwise enough to develop a catastrophic illness. Lionel Shriver talks to Caroline Baum.

I also heard an interview with authors of a book about the chemicals that can kill you. Two guys shut themselves in a room and exposed themselves to certain chemicals (whose names escape me) then checked their blood counts afterwards. Very scary. It's made me very leery about microwaving and Teflon pans.

Today there was an interview with a man who wrote a book about the books that had changed his life, 25 of them in all. I wish I could remember his name because he was funny and irreverent and I think the book will be interesting.

No writing today on my part. But tomorrow is another day.
